However, the first of the two conditionals given out, I have unraveled.

2. Qa8+ - the second queen move, in a mate in 3!

3. e6# - a nice “criss-cross” […]
I think this one was too easy?
Maybe I am even missing something…
Puzzle 5a:
White to move and “NOT WIN”
1. c4+ Rxc4 (forced)
2. e4 Rxe4 (forced)
3. Ne7+ Rxe7 (you get the idea)
4. Nc7+ Rxc7…
